Mike Lonski, author of Coding Smart, and Allegro's vice president of research and development, delivered "Pick An Index, Any Index...," at the Southeastern User Group conference. It was held March 11-13, at the Hilton University Place in Charlotte, N.C.

The core of an application is the database and its indices are at the core of accessing the database. Knowing the ins and outs of the database engine index rules can make or break an application's performance. With the increase in dynamic programming models, the ability to properly select indices and, more importantly, prove which ones are being used is paramount. "Incredible ROI: Leveraging Open Source" at MMUG Conference, Spring 2007

Doug Lucy, president of Allegro, discussed how to leverage Open Source in his talk, "Incredible ROI: Leveraging Open Source," at the Midwest User Group conference. This was held March 18-20, 2007 at the Adams Mark Hotel, Indianapolis, Ind. Doug Lucy explained how Open Source works, what it provides, the pitfalls to watch out for and how to best harness the value and power without risking precious time or money. He also discussed some available applications (ERP, CRM, CMS, PIM, CM, etc.), where to find them, how to determine which packages will survive, implementation strategies, integrating with existing systems, and more.
